My musical "career" began in 1986 at the relatively late age of 24. Due to a bad injury, I was laid up with too much time and no where to direct my energies. So, with little training and absolutely no clue, I began to pluck around on an old fender acoustic I'd had since I was a kid. After two years of honing my skills, and subjecting my family and friends to an enormous amount of forgettable "music", I felt I was ready to give a live performance a shot.
In 1988 I played my first live shows in the youth hostels and bars of New Zealand and Australia. My audiences were very forgiving (usually quite buzzed), and slowly I began to build both confidence and some semblance of musicianship. My first songs were written on this trip and as I played them live I became energized by the power of original music.
When I returned to Colorado, I met keyboardist Eric Smith and guitarist Rusty Roberts. This trio formed the nucleus of our first band "The Reason Why" . We released our first CD in 1994 titled "In Back of Beyond" . In 1998 Eric left the band and we changed our name to Exit 232. We released our second CD titled "Touch the Doubt" in 1999 under the new name Exit 232.
